The Zortrax M300 Dual is a modernized version of Zortrax’s M300 model, which features a number of hardware and software improvements in its design. First of all, the printer is equipped with two hotends which allow it to work in the LPD Plus technology. This 3D printing technology uses standard thermoplastics and soluble support material to build parts (dual-extrusion mode). Still, it is possible to create parts using only one material (single-extrusion mode). Depending on the chosen method, the support structures should be removed manually or dissolved in water. In addition, the printer has several hardware features which significantly help to reduce the number of failed prints: the material jam detection system which immediately pauses the printing process in the case of extrusion problems as well as the blackout response system which saves the printing progress so that the device can resume the printing from the same spot after a power outage. The Zortrax M300 Dual 3D printer can be used in many industries while designing and prototyping, for instance, automotive parts, mechanical elements, conceptual models, everyday objects as well as decorative elements.

Printing with water-soluble supports

The LPD Plus system in the M300 Dual uses a built-in extruder with a double hot-end and two separate nozzles, allowing users to work with two different materials, including a range of third-party filaments.

The benefits of the water-soluble support system allow for easily-removed support structures and means that the M300 Dual can 3D print intricate internal geometries that cannot be done on single-material machines. Soluble supports also enable parts to be stacked upon one another, allowing the entire build volume of the 3D printer, measuring 265 x 265 x 300 mm, to be used in a single print cycle.

Other key features of the system include a blackout response system, for continuing printing in the event of a power outage, and something the company calls “advanced filament control”, which aims to reduce print losses. With advanced filament control, notifications are sent to the user in the event of an error, like the filament depleting, or the nozzle becoming clogged, after which the system will then automatically pause the progress of its 3D print so that the fault can be rectified
